But luckily over time, I have made myself kind of like my boring academic syllabus. And you too can.

Fortunately enough, this article doesn't contain those very basic study tips such as, drink enough water, take enough breaks, and whatnot. Enough bragging, let's begin.

Scientific Study Tips, Tricks, and Techniques for College Students

1) Dig into each Term:

Once I read somewhere-

The things we don't like are also the ones we don't understand.

for example, I don't like Maths. Not because "I just don't like it", so is because I don't know how to solve it.

What about the study? Yeah, you got it right. We don't like it because we don't understand it.

So what is the solution?

Let's dig into deep a bit...

Your books are nothing but a collection of different chapters, right?

Chapters are a collection of topics.

Topics are the group of paragraphs.

Paragraphs are made up of Sentences.

Sentence consists of words.

And words are nothing but the arrangement of alphabets.

So, we all are familiar with Alphabets, right? But are we all familiar with WORDS? And by words, I mean all the words that are written in our book. I know the answer is NO!

SO things go from basic to advanced. By having the knowledge of Letters we understand language basics.

By having knowledge about WORDS, we understand Sentence. By understanding Sentences we understand Paragraphs and by combining the knowledge of all given paragraphs we understand the whole TOPIC, and the process keeps going on.

So this is why it is extremely important to know the meaning of each and every word in the book, especially when you are new to that subject or you are not very good at that.

if you don't know the meaning of any word, go to the web and search for that word. You may forget it in the future but don't worry, repeat the search again and soon you'll never be able to forget that again.

2) Choose Your Course and Subjects wisely:

I know this doesn't seem like a Study Tip but it is included as it is really crucial.

If you love Science, take it. If you are more interested in Arts & Humanities, go for it. Don't take any subject just because your parents have told you to do so or you think you are gonna be rich by taking any particular stream.

Only take those subjects you are good and genuinely interested in. And then you will be amazed to see how easy is the Art Of Studying.

3. Create Study Environment

Some people can study in any surroundings, however, most of us are not like them.

Most of us need a proper environment to study. So when you sit for study, keep books beside you and a water bottle near you. And keep your phone away or hide it inside your cupboard or drawer.

4. Visualize what You Study

The more senses you use while doing any task, the more effectively the task gets performed.

Generally, we can learn any new concept effectively by visualizing it.

Let's say you are studying Biology and THE HUMAN EYE is the concept you want to understand. It would always be a better decision to watch the 3D video of Eye and then study its parts.

Studying with the help of diagrams, charts and graphs also makes studying more effective.

You can also visualize things in your mind. For example, if you are studying AstroPhysics, it would always be better to imagine them inside your brain and then study.

By visualizing we can keep things in mind for longer time periods.

5) Connect Study to Real Life Things

The study is nothing but a way to make life better than it was yesterday.

Many students consider study and actual life as two different things, but in actual they are just two sides of the same coin.

for example, if you are studying Civil Engineering, it would be extremely helpful for your studies to visit and closely observe any bridges, buildings, highways, and other infrastructures. Studying things in books and observing them, in reality, are two very different things.

As a Computer Science student, you can go through the source code of popular open-source software and can see the way they are built.

Do practicals related to your subject. In science do experiments and in humanities do surveys.

6)  Connect the Dots

All the subjects that we study are linked together to one another. So whenever we study one subject make sure you link it to another if possible. And same goes with the topics.

For example, while studying Maths you can connect it to Economics by solving the economical questions.

This makes it extremely easy to remember concepts and never forget them.

7) Cramming is Inevitable

As a teenager, I hated cramming. I never crammed things.

However, in college, I realized there are many things that you must cram to remember for a long time. Such things include Formulae and facts.

Cramming is not a bad thing but you need to do it at the right place and don't try to apply to cram everywhere, because it doesn't work at every place.

8) Challenge Yourself by Setting Targets

Next time you open any book, set a target about how many pages or topics you are going to study in the next 1 hour.

Once you figure out your efficiency rate, try increasing it from then on.

Challenging yourself by setting up targets makes you more productive.

9) Find Right Time to Study and Make Short Schedule

Timing is anything is a very crucial factor. Doing things the right way but not doing them at the right time and expecting great outcomes seems childish.

You play football for 3 hours and then you come home and try to study. Is that possible? For most of us, NO! This is why the time factor is important.

Study at the time you feel most refreshed. For some people it can be in the morning, for others it could be in the evening. It can't be generalized. Choose whichever suits you.

Our schedule fails most times because we draw them very deeply. Good Schedules are flexible.

* Less Flexible- "I will study from 2pm to -5pm for 2 Hours."

* More Effective- "I will study for 3 hours anywhere between 1 pm to 6pm is good."

Make them flexible and I know you will achieve your targets.

10) Discuss and Teach Your Friends

When you teach anything to anyone, it helps in making your concepts clearer.

And this thing is Scientifically proven.

So next time your friend struggles with any topic go and help him in.

Also, discussing things make your knowledge in-depth and helps you in making things clearer.
